Nuno Paulino and Francisco Ribeiro presented a Vision-Assisted Communications Demonstrator at Mostra da U.Porto 2024, developed in the context of the ongoing CONVERGE project.
The demonstrator consisted of an embedded system, equipped with a video camera, capable of identifying people and tracking their movement. In this case, a reconfigurable intelligent surface is presented in the form of a Matlab simulation. In response to this tracking, the system presents a simulation of the control and behavior of a directional telecommunications device that directs a communications channel to the detected position of the target user. Using a television, both image-based tracking and control of the direction of the communications beam are demonstrated.
